The mission of the Traffic Unit is to reduce property damage, injuries, and deaths caused by traffic collisions in the community. They accomplish this through the use of preventative patrols, pro-active enforcement, speed measuring equipment, and radar trailers. The Traffic Unit conducts detailed investigations of traffic accidents and citizen traffic complaints. The Traffic Division takes the lead in planning for parades and special community events. They are also assigned to funeral processions and dignitary escorts.
In addition to highly specialized automobiles, the Division also deploys motorcycles. A benefit of having motorcycles is superior maneuverability during emergencies and community events.
A motorcycle has much lower costs to equip, maintain and operate than the average police automobile thus providing a significant cost benefit to the agency.
Deputies assigned to a motorcycle must successfully complete rigorous, specialized training and wear special protective gear.
