Field Training - Officer
The DCSO Field Training Officer (FTO) program includes two primary missions of jail and patrol training. The jail division FTO program incorporates all the Nevada P.O.S.T. requirements for a Category 3 correctional officer certification.
While conducting officer training, an FTO documents a comprehensive daily evaluation of the officer’s performance. The officer will progress through four phases of training and be evaluated by five different Field Training Officers. This program has been highly effective in identifying and developing officers to be capable of handling the duties and responsibilities of a Patrol Officer.
Officers selected as an FTO are carefully screened and must have an excellent work ethic, maturity and above average performance evaluations.Patrol Field Training Officers must possess above average skills in all areas of patrol procedures. The minimum patrol experience to be considered for Patrol FTO is two years. Both Jail and Patrol Field Training Officers receive an additional financial incentive while serving in their capacity.
Historically, experienced FTOs have produced superior performance in promotional examinations. Today’s FTOs are tomorrow’s leaders. |
